Our Mission

The mission of Rietondale Primary is to provide excellent Christian-based, English-medium education whilst promoting tolerance, human dignity, equality, non-racialism, non-sexism and democracy and maintaining the ethos, culture and traditions of the school and the community it serves.

Our Vision

To become a recognized primary school in the district, region and province, renowned for the quality of education it provides and for the all-rounded learners it produces, ready to take up their place as responsible citizens of the country.

A short history of our school
  • The school opened its doors on 15 April 1947 with 8 classrooms and 142 pupils.
  • There were five members of staff.  There were 33 children in Grade 1 and 2.
  • There were 30 children in Standard 1 and 2, 33 in Standard 3 and 27 children in Standard 4 and 5.
  • The school fund levy at the time was half a crown or 25c.
  • On 20 November 1947 the school closed at 12:40 so pupils could listen to the marriage ceremony of the then Princess Elizabeth to Prince Phillip.  The time taken off had to be made up at play times.
  • In 1948 electric lights were installed in some classrooms.
  • By 1949 there were 196 children on the roll.
  • In August 1951 one lady was appointed as a part-time secretary.  She only worked on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • In April 1955 there were 279 pupils on the roll.  There were seven members of staff.
  • On 15 January 1959 the first school gala was held.  The school participated in the first inter-school gala.
  • In 1975 the After-School Centre was established.  There were 687 children on the roll.
  • “Warren’s Hill” was constructed on Top Field in 1984.
  • Foundation for the new pool was constructed in 1984.
                       

  • A “Dig this day” was held with Keith Kirsten during September 1984.

Depicting the activities of school life.  The interrelationships of caring and kindness that there must exist between teacher and pupil and the nurturing of the school gardens (bunch of flowers and tree) and the enjoyment of book work and sporting activities.
  • In 1988 a service was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Diaz Voyage.
  • A mosaic mural commemorating the voyage of Diaz was unveiled at the school.
